Milan and Expo 2015

On Monday we made it to Milan! We only had part of Monday and all of yesterday to see what this city is all about, so as soon as we dropped our stuff off at the apartment, off we went!

Our first stop on Monday was the Duomo (or Milan Cathedral). Seeing as how this is the 3rd largest church in the world, it is definitely massive and very grand!

"Wooaahhh! This is huge!"

After the Duomo, we walked around and through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, which is where a lot of the high-end shops and restaurants are. Not only were the shops cool to look at, but the building itself was beautiful!

We also continued our walk around the downtown/shopping area until we decided it was time for a break and went back to the apartment before going out to a delicious dinner.

Yesterday, we went to the Expo 2015! In case you didn’t know, Milan hosted this year’s World’s Fair. So since we just so happened to be in Milan during the exposition, we took the opportunity to go. And we’re so glad we did! The theme for this year is: Feeding the planet, energy for life. 145 different countries each had their own pavilion dedicated to the theme. Although we couldn’t see every single pavilion, it was a fun (and at times difficult) experience, and we’re so happy we had the opportunity to go to a World’s Fair! It felt like we were able to go all over the world and eat different cuisines in one city. ;)

The Tree of Life

And thus concludes our stay in Milan. Short but sweet! Not only that, but yesterday also concluded our journey of Italy. We absolutely loved this country, and it was great to experience multiple regions. Every place we went to was very unique in their own right, where each region seemed to have their own sub-culture. It almost felt like we went to a different country with each city we went to. If we had to choose a favorite, it would have to be Florence. The city had so much charm to it, it was easily walkable, and the surrounding countryside was amazingly beautiful.

The only downsides we experienced in Italy was the heat (mostly in Venice and Rome), the bug bites (we must have accumulated over 50 bites between the two of us), and the occasional rude waiter who felt the need to treat us like tourists. But with all of that aside, Italy was wonderful! We’re already talking about other regions we’d like to see for our next visit. ;)

And now we are in Lausanne, Switzerland! We will be staying in Lausanne for 2 nights, then move on to Bern, and ending in Basel. And we're already off to a great start! The city is absolutely beautiful! It's on Lake Geneva, so the views are stunning. But more to come on that soon!
