Using the 5 D's of Dodgeball

Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and...Dodge. I think we've used all five of these when navigating the streets of Venice today. We don't know if it was because it was Sunday, a cruise ship docked or what, but there were SO many people out today! Granted, Venice has been crowded since we got here, but today seemed extra crowded with people who just felt like walking slow or against traffic.

On the way to Museo Correr. This wasn't even the worst of the streets

Anyways, our morning started off nice and slow. We've been going nonstop the past few days, so we wanted to rest up and sleep in. It was definitely rejuvenating, and I was even able to do laundry like a true Italian!

Before heading to our first stop, Museo Correr, we went to a coffee bar so I could get a cappuccino and a croissant. Adam opted for a slice of pizza to go. =)

Then it was off to the museum! Located in Piazza San Marco, Museo Correr has a very large collection that tells the long history of Venice. We felt that the layout of the museum was confusing, but overall, they had some very interesting artifacts!

Obvs felt like Belle in the ballroom!

Shoes!

A 1,500 year old box!

A 2,200 year-old inscription!

Right after Museo Correr, we grabbed a quick bite then headed across the piazza to the Basilica San Marco. We purchased a “skip the line” pass, since we potentially would have had to wait in line for 45 minutes….

We couldn’t have that. We’re white. And therefore we’d melt in the blazing hot and humid sun. So purchasing these tickets were well worth the 4 Euros!

The basilica is HUGE! It’s also jaw-droppingly beautiful. The best thing about the church was that the entire ceiling was mosaic. On the ground floor, you can’t even tell, but when you go to the top, you could see more of the details. We’re not religious or anything, but it’s just mind-blowing to us how much work is put into these churches.

As mentioned, we went to the top area of the church. From up above, we were able to go out onto the terrace to get views of the piazza, as well as view mosaic and tapestry artwork that has been part of the church, and see the church from up above. No pictures were allowed in the interior, but I just couldn’t help to sneak in a few!

Part of inside of the church. Can you believe the WHOLE ceiling is mosaic?!

After the church, it was gelato time. And this time I actually remembered to take a picture!

After our tasty treat, we went back to our apartment to rest and cool off. At around 8, we went out for a tasty seafood dinner for our last evening in Venice! We went to a popular place called Trattoria de Bepi. Here, we shared 3 different seafood courses (pictures below), and a scrumptious almond chocolate cake (which I failed to take a picture of…I was just too damn excited!)

On the way to dinner

1st course: Grilled Scallops

2nd course: Spaghetti con Seppie al Nero

You've got a little somethin' in your teeth...

3rd course: Fried seafood with Polenta Cake

Tomorrow we embark on our adventure over to Rome. We had a great time here in Venice! There’s so much beauty here, and a culture that is different than we’re used to. But that’s the beauty of traveling…getting to experience life in a whole different way. =)
