"Gogh"-ing Out

Today was an absolutely beautiful day in Amsterdam! Sunny and not a cloud in the sky!

The owners of the apartment that we are staying in have graciously lent us their bikes during our stay, which is very nice of them. In case you weren't aware, EVERYONE here uses a bike to get around. The city even has legit bike highways, where cyclists seem to always have the right-of-way.

Anyways, we used the bikes for the first time today! I was super nervous in the beginning, as I've already been a little overwhelmed with the endless amount of cyclists. Mostly I was afraid I was going to biff it in an intersection and look like I didn't know what the hell I was doing. But it took a few words of encouragement, and soon enough riding in the city felt totally natural! Adam on the other hand, was able to get on his bike and take off effortlessly within a matter of seconds.

We first biked to the Museumplein and took a quick stroll before heading to one of the museums - The Van Gogh Museum. And yes...you guessed it...it's a museum filled with most of Vincent Van Gogh's works of art, from his paintings to his letters. Some notable works that we were able to see were The Bedroom, The Potato Eaters, and Still Life: Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers. Not only were there dozen's of Van Gogh's work, but the museum also featured some other works of art by Impressionist painters such as Degas, Manet, and Pissaro to display some of Van Gogh's influences.

After leaving the Van Gogh Museum, we biked over to Vondelpark. This is the biggest and most popular park in Amsterdam, and it sort of reminded us of Golden Gate Park. We first rode around a bit, and took in some of the scenery before stopping by the 't Blauwe Theehuis (Blue Tea House) for a drink. This saucer-shaped restaurant is a popular destination in Vondelpark to grab a drink and some snacks.

After our little drink break, we then walked around for a little bit, to enjoy some of the scenery and sun. Then we hopped back on our bikes to ride around the rest of the park before going home.

We got home just before 5:30. Not quite dinnertime in Amsterdam, so we just hung out in the backyard with Keesiee and a glass of wine.

At around 7 we decided to go out and get some dinner. One of the "must have" foods here in Amsterdam is Indonesian (as it was a former Dutch colony). Neither of us have had Indonesian food, so we wanted to give it a try at a place called Sama Sebo. And oh my goodness, it was delicious! We have no idea what we ordered, other than the fact that it included noodles/rice, chicken, pork, veggies, and a friend banana. It was all super tasty, and we're happy that we finally got to try some Indonesian cuisine. We'll most likely be having more throughout the month!

Mouth-watering
And it is with full bellies that we conclude today in Amsterdam. =)
