Odds and Ends of Iceland

Today marks our last day here in Iceland! We didn't do much other than walk around and hang out in the city. It was actually sunny for the first time we were here, so all we really wanted to do was to enjoy the sun. Unfortunately that meant that we got a little "crispy" on our faces, but it was a very enjoyable day! Some highlights were...

Seeing a topographical 360-degree view of Iceland at City Hall...

Treating ourselves to the creamiest chocolate-dipped ice cream we've had by far...

Feeding the ducks and seagulls...

Meeting European Cat #4, who we named Rasta-Cat...

Trying puffin for the first time...

Tomorrow we set off for Amsterdam! We're both excited for the next stop, especially since we'll be there for a whole entire month. It's kind of like being a kid in a candy store. There's so much to see and do, we just don't know where we'll start!

But before we depart Iceland, here's some random observations we have made along the way:

1. Iceland is an absolutely beautiful country! The country has so much to offer and has endless amounts of activities if you like nature.

2. It is very apparent that they are trying to promote tourism.

3. The people here aren't exactly friendly, but they aren't rude either.

4. We tried 2 of Iceland's delicacies: whale and puffin. Whale is delicious, it tastes like steak. Puffin on the other hand...we're still trying to decide. It was saltier and fishier than expected, and I think the dish we had was served raw. We'd like to try it cooked next time.

5. Alchohol is very expensive.

6. There's a sulfuric smell when running hot water, and it doesn't smell pretty. If an egg could fart, thats what the hot water would smell like. Luckily it doesn't leave you smelling like that after taking a shower.

7. Murals can be found all over Reykjavik! They are fun to stumble across.

8. A lot of art can also be found throughout Reykjavik, especially statues, which can be found throughout the city parks.

9. There aren't any beggars, so for those of you who live in San Francisco, you'd find this as a relief.

10. You can use Apple Pay anywhere! In addition, cards are accepted everywhere. We haven't had to pull out any cash throughout the whole trip. That's pretty convenient if you ask us!

Iceland, you're such an awesome country! I felt like we've only scratched the surface of what we can see/do here. Until next time!
